R is for Raising Money! by Running a Race!
In January of this year I made a decision to alphabetter myself, to improve myself by trying a new thing or learning a new skill each week. This activity is also an opportunity to alphabetter the world around me - I hope you will all help me do that and here are the reasons why:
I have never run a race before
This is, by far, the biggest challenge I have yet faced on my journey of self-improvement. In the last few months I have been building up my fitness but prior to that my hatred for physical activity was well established.
Actually taking part in a race is a world away from the person I was - something I never would have thought I could do - surely that's worth a few quid.
It raises money for Cancer Research
1 in 3 people will develop cancer in their lifetime - and that figure doesn't take into account the actual number that will be affected: family members, friends, colleagues.
I have known people who have battled through cancer, who are still fighting and some who haven't survived. I'm not racing for a specific person but for all of the people I know who have been affected by and continue to live in the shadow of cancer.
The money raised at Race for Life funds Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer - that's worth more than a few quid.
So sponsor me!!!
Please donate whatever you can - every pound will make a difference and will definitely help me to motivate myself to get over the finish line (I hear that's what they call the end part?!?).
You can (and should!) donate online here but I will also be holding a couple of alphabettering events (I'll be looking for volunteers for the Q activity...) where you will be able to put actual coins into a real world bucket.
And Gift Aid it!
If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when donating as this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support!
