Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
For those of you who have missed all of the advertising, Race for Life is the UK's biggest women-only fundraising event, with 230 events taking place across the UK this summer supporting Cancer Research UK, the world's leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research.
Women of all ages and all levels of fitness run, walk, jog, skip, hop - just somehow take part - in a 5km (3.1mile) race, raising sponsorship to support Cancer Research UK, who rely overwhelmingly on the success of fundraising events such as this to continue their life-saving research into the prevention, treatment and cure of all forms of cancer.
This year, primarily because of my uncle's battle with the disease, I will be one of those women.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now, before you have the chance to forget!
Many thanks for all your support.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A big 'thank you' to everybody who has sponsored me so far, and enabled me to meet my initial target amount within a couple of weeks! Please don't let this stop you sponsoring me though, as every penny makes a difference and I'm therefore now increasing my target to £250.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uncle John lost his battle with cancer on Monday 10th April. Please, please sponsor me, and help bring down this evil disease.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.05.06 - Started training properly last night. I've been getting used to the idea of exercise by walking a lot more recently, but last night I went for a proper training session and ran laps of Preston Park for half an hour or so after work. I actually surprised myself at how much I was able to run rather than walk, and so far I'm not in too much pain and my hips haven't popped (even more surprising!). They were grinding a bit while I ran, but weren't too bad, especially while I was on the grass. It remains to be seen whether I cease up tonight though! Still, a positive start at least!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 04.06.06 - Went to support Mum & Jenny in their race around the City of London. It was a beautiful day for it and the atmosphere was amazing. It was just so emotional reading everybody's back signs, especially one woman who had four names listed, and their ages alongside three of them - all under 15. A few people even had photos on their signs, which I think I'm going to do as well. The course was really well designed for spectators too, with lots of looping around and doubling back, so I could cheer them on at one point, then while they ran around a couple of blocks, I could duck down a side road and catch them again. Well done to whoever designed the course! In the end they finished in 54 minutes 57 seconds - which is really good going seeing as they only went out training twice and walked most of it! I was hoping for a target of about 45 minutes, running as much as possible, I might need to rethink that one!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 07.06.06 - Surprised myself tonight and actually covered 2.5km while training, most of it actually running! I might just be able to do this thing without killing myself in the process after all!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 29.06.06 - As it's the big day on Saturday, I thought I'd do a practice run last night, just to give myself an idea of how long it'll take me - ie whether I'd be back in time for kick off! Again I managed to surprise myself and covered the full 5km in around 50 minutes! I was running on the paths around Hove Park though, so a nice surface on fairly flat ground. Somehow I'm not so sure about running on grass on Stanmer Park's slopes in what looks like could be 80 degree heat! I guess I'll soon find out though! And at least I should be able to make it to a TV in time for the England game!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 03.07.06 - I DID IT! Race day was Saturday and as it was so incredibly hot I decided not to run much, just walk and actually finish rather than passing out halfway round! The hill at the start was just plain evil, but at least it wasn't at the end! I ran for a brief stint about three times - first coming down the hill (although that was more momentum than anything else!) then on the two stretches of pathway - but didn't really try to run on the grass, it was too uneven and my ankles kept going over enough just walking! I amazed myself though by finishing in 40 minutes 24 seconds, without a hip pop, and without even a blister! I definitely think I'll do the City of London one with Mum & Jen next year though, I've decided I much prefer road racing, and the pub is much closer to the finish line!
A massive THANK YOU to everybody who supported and sponsored me, and if you haven't yet, it's not too late - this website accepts sponsors until 15th July, so please do give retrospectively!
