Thank you for visiting my Race for Life fundraising page. For those that don't know me, I lost my Dad to stomach cancer just over 2 years ago, and my Aunty Joan (dad's sister) to ovarian cancer 3 years ago. The reason I am racing on July 15 is so that I can hopefully; with your contributions, help in someway to ensure that neither you, your family or friends will have to go through what our family did.
I know that on the day of the Race my Dad will be watching over me and kicking my butt towards the finish line. And if that wasn't inspiration enough, I have the Rocky theme, Vanessa Carlton's - Walk a 1000 miles, along with Chariots of Fire to see me through the last leg of the race.
So far, my training is going well. I take myself off to the beach and put on my motivational songs to get me through the distance. I'm now up to the 3 miles in an hour and a half. I hope to get that down to at least an hour, that is on the proviso that I can resist picking up seashells on the beach during my run.. *cough*walk*cough*.
For those that don't know me, i've had four knee operations in two years. So, the knees are a bit knackered, and I imagine the rest of my body will follow suite after the run. Hehehe. With that said, I am nothing if not determined when i'm on a quest. I've bought the shin and knee pads just in case I have to resort to crawling the last mile on all fours. That would be an interesting way to finish the race... and may be a first in the history of Race for Life!
The money raised goes towards not only research, but it includes providing money for the Macmillan nurses who care for terminally ill patients in their homes. They are the unsung heroes, who help carers and families out. Not just in terms of their time, but by providing practical and emotional support at a time when it's need the most. Being a carer for someone who is terminally ill, is difficult in itself, doubly so when it's a family member, and your contributions go towards helping out a family in their time of need and ultimately it is used to prevent treat and cure cancer.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me - Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So if I may be so cheeky. i'd be grateful if you could please sponsor me! Thank you in advance for you kindness.
*hugs*
