10 June 2007

Yep I made it round in 35 minutes this year (5 minutes faster than last year) and Bonnie joined me for the final stretch to the finishing line:  that was magic and made me feel so so PROUD!!

PLEASE SPONSOR ME for my 1st 10K - ooh I am cheeky!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who has sponsored me and for those of you who haven't please feel free to do so, as it's not too late to make a donation.  This page expires on 24 June 2007 and will accept donations up to then, also I am collecting offline donations up to the end of June, so please keep them coming in.

Thank you for visiting my Race for Life fundraising page and a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has sponsored me so far.  Last year you helped me raise a fantastic £1,048 for Cancer Research UK and with your help and kind support I would love to raise £LOADS for them again this year.  No matter how small your donation is it will make a huge difference to Cancer Research UK, so please sponsor me now and help more people survive cancer.

Since Race for Life started in 1994, it has grown to become the UK's biggest women-only fundraising event.  So far, over two million women of all ages have run, walked or jogged 5km to raise over £140 million in sponsorship for Cancer Research UK.  They raised £50 million last year through Race for Life and this year they hope to raise £60 million for their life-saving work by bringing an amazing 800,000 women together at 280 Race for Life events across the UK.  Race for Life last year was my first ever attempt at fundraising and ended up being one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

I Race for Life again for Bonnie and Judith

I Race for Life again in celebration of my 6 year old granddaughter Bonnie who was diagnosed, at the age of 4, with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on 21 June 2005.  She is such a special and beautiful little girl who has been incredibly brave throughout her treatment and both her humour and zest for life have been truly inspiring.  Bonnie is now on the maintenance part of her treatment which continues to the end of this year and so far she is doing GREAT, long may it continue.  Cancer Research UK help fund her trial, UK ALL 2003, so I have so much to thank them for and participating in Race for Life is my way of giving something back to them.  Without Cancer Research UK who knows what her outcome would be.

Also I Race For Life again in loving memory of my lifelong best friend Judith who sadly lost her short battle with cancer on 30 May 2004.  I was so privileged and fortunate in spending her last 4 months with her in Canada, not many of us get that opportunity, and 3 years on I still miss her terribly.

Thursday 12 April 2007

Thought it was high time that I gave you all an update.  I have decided this year to do my training up the gym as I have not run since last year's Race for Life and cannot motivate myself to get out there running after a long and busy day at work.  I have not been to the gym for 6 years and the last time I ran on a treadmill I fell off, so this should be fun!!  Tonight I had my induction (ouch) and now have my own personal programme to work to.  At last year's race I found it hard to run longer than 3 minutes at a time but this year I hope to improve on that by training up the gym 3 times a week, we shall see eh!!  Guildford Race for Life is only 8 1/2 weeks away and I can't wait!!

Sunday 22 April 2007

A HUGE THANK YOU to Marc and Natasha for a donation match (£50).  Anyone else up for the challenge!!

Sunday 13 May 2007

Only 4 weeks to go and I’m feeling them butterflies already.  I’m enjoying being back at the gym and thankfully haven’t fallen off that treadmill, well not yet anyway!!  I can now run for 5 minutes without losing my breath which is a great improvement on last year and so far I haven’t missed one session at the gym.  As from next weekend I will be braving the elements by running outside (well attempting to), I should have been out there today but chickened out due to the rain, some things never change eh!!  Wow what can I say, I am overwhelmed yet again by all your support and kind donations to Cancer Research UK, they are really keeping me going, so a HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU ALL from them and me.

I am hoping this year to raise as much sponsorship as I can online by donations through this site as it is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me as Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no extra cost to you.

However, if you do not wish to donate online then please either send me your cheque, made payable to Cancer Research UK or email me your pledge with your name and address to crazy.nannie@yahoo.co.uk and I will gladly add your name on to my sponsorship form (hard copy).  Please don't forget to let me know if you are a UK taxpayer.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all my COLOURFUL off-line sponsors

Cancer will affect us all, in one way or another, at some stage in our lives because the fact is that as many as one in three of us will get this awful disease.  Innocent children and adults will continue to suffer its cruel brutality until a cure is found so please support Cancer Research UK by giving as much or as little as you can.  As a charity, Cancer Research UK rely overwhelmingly on the success of fundraising events such as Race for Life to continue their life-saving research into the prevention, treatment and cure of all forms of cancer, so please sponsor me now and help me to raise essential funds for this worthwhile charity.

Please help me to promote this page - please also forward this page onto everyone you know - ooh I am cheeky !!

Many thanks in anticipation of your kind support - Claire x
