The thing about cancer is that socially we are all touched by it in some way. We have experienced friends, colleages or family dealing with it and see how it ravages lives. The one thing we don't expect even with the prolific nature of this horrible disease is that it will be us in that position.
At least I didn't.
It was me in that position though. Completely out of the blue routine tests came back abnormal and before I knew it there was talk of 'treatment plans' and 'oncology consultants' a thoroughly surreal experience.
The best part though is that because of the fantastic care and treatment from my consultants, the cancer was caught very early, so much so that it was able to be removed surgically without the need for intensive treatment. My consultant doesn't think it will reoccur and set me up with bi-annual checks for the next few years just to make sure.
In all I am hugely fortunate to have been given the care which has saved my life. So I am going to be running in the Race for Life to raise some money to help others in my position. Please donate anything you can afford to allow these amazing people to keep saving lives!
Thank you
Dawn
