This is my first Race for Life and, as you all know, I'm no athlete!

However, with the approach of the big 4 0 next year, it's about time I thought about getting fit! I have also been getting very reflective and this led me to think about someone I met at Mainholm Academy, Elizabeth McCreadie. While I have gone on to have some great opportunities - going to college, running my own business, getting married to James and having two wonderful children, Alice and Evan - Elizabeth, who sat behind me on my first day at secondary school, was nursed by my Mum and her colleagues until she died at the Ayrshire Hospice, aged 23.

Mum was also around when May Kyle gave birth to her first daughter.  May died in December 2005 but she enjoyed the same wonderful relationship with Ruth and Alexa as I have with my own Mum, Chrystel.
