Hello!
Thank you for visiting my Race for Life sponsorship page. As you can see from the photos, I've completed the race - but you can still sponsor me and help me raise even more funds for Cancer Research UK.
So why did I do it?
My sister, Diana, died of cancer on 31st January 2011, just 5 days after her 55th birthday. Pretty well everything she did was directed to making other people's lives better in one way or another, whether through her work as a music teacher, her pastoral work as a Reader in the Church of England, as a musician, or as a wife and mother to three fabulous children.
Diana was a pianist, an oboeist and a singer. It is therefore all the more cruel that her cancer attacked two of the key 'tools of her trade' - first of all her throat and then her lungs.
Following surgery and radiotherapy last year, it seemed that Diana had got it licked by Christmas. Indeed, she was back in the classroom in the new year. But within three weeks she was admitted to a hospice, where she died just three days later.
Please dig deep and sponsor my efforts in the Race for Life so that together we can learn how cancer can take someone from normal working life to a hospice bed in only three weeks and use that knowledge to help more people beat cancer.
Sponsoring me online is quick, easy and totally secure - so don't be shy!
If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when donating as this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no cost to you..
Many, many thanks for your support.
Fran
