On the 20th April 2008 Jackie sadly lost her courageous battle against cancer. She was an amazing person who touched so many lives inspiring us through her bravery, infectious outlook on life and bubbly persona.
In 2007 Jackie raised over £14,000 by taking part in the Race for Life. She believed it was her way of giving something back to the team who treated and supported her throughout cancer, and a cause that provided hope of a future cure.
In celebration of Jackie's life, her family and friends are tossing aside their stiletto's, fitness phobia's and joining the fight. We want to raise as much money as possible. So between us we will walk, jog, run (or crawl) over 100 miles in Race for Life events up and down the country. An old hampshire proverb...if you can join 'em..sponsor 'em - so please dig deep!
Words from Jackie's husband Dave: "I was the lucky man who shared nearly twenty years with Jackie. She was an inspiration to me throughout that time and never more so than in the last two years of her life when she battled cervical cancer. I am still incredulous at how she remained so positive and how she focused so much of her energy on caring about others at a time when she was fighting for her own life. As with everything else that she did, she threw herself wholeheartedly into last year's Race for Life and raised an incredible £14,300. Jackie died on Sunday April 20th 2008 aged 37 and I still can't believe she's gone. It's a comfort to me however that she was never scared of dying and has now gone to join her Dad, Grandad & Aunt May. She'll also get to meet my Mum for the first time who died from cancer in 1984 - four years before Jackie and I met. I hope that the money raised through the Race for Life and other such events will one day help to provide the answers that will save wonderful people like my Jackie, her Dad and my Mum from dying of cancer".
