This Time last Year I was undergoing my Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer as you all know. Its been a long journey since then, I finished the Chemo, and then had 5 weeks of Radiotherapy. I have never been so glad to finish. Infact, if I remember correctly I celebrated in style at my brothers and got completely paralytic...maybe not the best.
I was planning to return to work in October 2009, when in September I was taken into hospital with a rare Auto Immune illness called "Dermatomyositis", this illness can not be cured, and it causes your body to attack the muscles in your Upper Legs and Torso, and it is linked to certain types of cancer. The Docs are unsure if all my Cancer treatment brought the illness on or if it was something I would have got anyway. So there I was thinking I'd be running the Race for Life this year, when really I have even less chance of running that Last year....There is always 2011...
This year I'm going to complete the course in memory of a lovely man, Willie Paton, who died from Cancer in August last year. I had known Willie for many years through his work as a material man off-shore, he used to ring me up when were both having our treatment and we would have a bitch and moan about things, he also used to say that we would both be okay, and we would make it through.
Once again I'm calling on the generosity of you all to donate to such a worthy cause. These days there isn't one person amongst us who hasn't been affected by Cancer one way or another, with races such as this maybe one day it can be stopped. Thanks to you all.
