Hello everyone, The day started well with bright blue clear skies and not a breath of a breeze, luckily by the time we got to Westpoint there was cloud cover and quite a strong breeze had been whipped up. My Mum and my daughter Danielle were all ready to start their walk with my cousin's wife Julia and I to join the thousands of runners. We were up near the front to start and when the countdown was over we all set off and the atmosphere was electric. The track was very rough underfoot but after the first half of the course being uphill things were going well until a slight twinge in the hamstring at the beginning started creating real problems for me. By the last 1.5K it was a mixture of run and hobble as things got progressivly worse, then by the last 500meters the marshalls were radioing ahead as i was hobbling badly. But I still managed to run across the line, albiet it holding and dragging my leg, in 27 minutes, just 2 minutes slower than last year. Julia came in just 2 minutes after me followed by Mum and Danielle with the walkers at 51 minutes, 5 minutes faster than last year. Well all things considered we were all really pleased to get round the course as it was an even more emotional race this year with family facing their battles with cancer. But the three generations managed to raise together just over £1,250.00 A big thank you to everyone who has sponsored me and for all the messages of support. Lots of love Rachel xx
Well this is it, this Sunday i lace up my trainers and off i go for the race for Life. I have been training but not as much as i would have likes, time being the main problem. But thanks to having a running machine at home i have managed to do enough to get me around the course in a hopefully not too bad a time. Thank you to all the sponsorship i have received so far. Loads from teams and individuals on the Shoot Out weekends and friends and family too. Please anyone who hasn't yet sponsored me it is not too late. I haven't even dared look at the weather forcast yet but off for a run after work today, Monday 14th, and get in another hopefully Thursday and then off i head ready (i hope) for Sunday. I will let you know how i get on after Sunday, wish me luck, i know it is not that far but its a very emotional run this year and i am sure it will drive me on when my legs feel like lead. Lots of Love Rachel xxx Hi everyone, Well I am back again second year and ready to do it all again. Last year I completed the Race for Life in a personal best time of 25 minutes and most importantly raised £1,633.00 for Cancer Research, well above my personal goal of £1000. I am running this race for precious members of my family some who have battled and won, others that are just starting their battle and others who have sadly lost theirs. I am also running for all my friends who have also been touched by this devastating disease and for all the many Shoot Out members who have been stricken with cancer. Like all those participants and supporters of this charity, I am running in the hope that one day we can look at our children or grandchildren and know that we helped fund the research that found the cure for this cruel disease. I am taking part along side my mum, daughter, Dani and aunts and cousins alike with thousands of other women with similar stories. so please, dig deep, every penny counts and together lets make a difference. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me - Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, at least an extra 25% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you when you tick the Gift Aid box.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support - together we will beat cancer. lots of love Rachel xx
